Humans are consuming all artificial and nature products in a relentless voracious way. The abstract approach in this project is based on the idea that it will always be easer for a person to accept something is wrong when they look for wrongness in others instead of themselves. This piece will enable the viewer to think and feel in new ways about the process behind obsessive consumption. The audience will experience the piece without seeing themselves reflected in the consumption process, avoiding triggering the natural systems of defense of someone that is under accusation.
Audience Overview
This is a project that will target a multicultural audience, including people from both sex and with an age range between 15-35 years old.
Overview of Prototype
I started my prototype by doing a brainstorm and a research about my persona; how I behave my self in must situations and where I am living right now. I came out with twenty words that define myself and from there I selected five that where the must evident in me, friendly, paranoid, impulsive, passionate and insistency. From those words I choose insistency as the one that predominates above the others and took it as a concept basis for my piece. I believe this is also a good concept to represent myself. Because even thought some time this characteristic doesn’t do my any good. Must of the time this aspect of my personality gives me the determination to do the kind of work I produce.
Today my prototype is taking a new direction, which I explain, on my general statement section.
Prototype Development
I worked this pieces layer by layer meaning that first I got my stop animation footage, then I work out some of the timing, then I work with the type setting, all of this in an effort of working the piece as a whole not by fractions. At the final stage of the animation I started to make renders and import them to after effects, making time adjustments, setting up a good narrative. Now that I finished the project I think that could be a lot better. By paying more attention to the timing, integrating some more sophisticated technique in after effects, maybe different points of view with the cameras or redesigning the overall narrative structure.
Ways in which this piece could be presented:
1- Installation: This installation I envision it as a panel on the floor. This panel will emulate the same aesthetic as shown on the moodboard. The layers would have to be peel by the audience and eventually, during this process, the audience will find tv monitors inserted at the lowest level of each panel an animation of a cavity being carved (the same way is presented on the prototype)
2- Interaction: The idea for interaction is to have an interface in which people will have a virtual panel on a computer monitor screen (this panel will emulate the same aesthetic as shown on the moodboard). The interface will work by having the audience carve the different cavities with the cursor. The interface would be executed using actionscript language.
3- Stop - Animation
4- Book Animation
5- Performance, Action, Happening
6- Sculpture
Analysis of Prototype: Tests & Results
TESTS
The prototype was shown on my thesis class #2.
Feedback:
-The name is not conveying the level of abstraction to get the message across without a neglecting reaction on the audience part.
- The final section of the motion piece could end in a more effective way, meaning: I could have towards the end aleatory rewinding and apply this in an aleatory way to any of the squares or cavities. And rewind this squares to the first stage of the animation. With this I would be able to show the aspect of endless regenerative product.
Results:
-I decided to look for other title options and I will post a survey where I will post different name options and hopefully this will help me find a better solution.
-Right know I am in the process of creating a storyboard for the final section of the piece.
Project Development
We are still in the prototyping stage.
Process Documentation
Work in progress.
Ideas
-It's always easer to embed a message into somebody's mind through emotional means instead of rational.
-Most consumer of today lack the ability to change their voracious, systematic and relentless consumption habits.
-Obsessive compulsive consumers and most of the regular consumers are living in self-destructive mode because of the way they consume their products (natural and mand man-made products)
